I Make Stuff

DSC_1182

While watching True Blood with Robyn last night, I started another project! It’s a craft apron, since I am messy! I’ve designed a few others and as I work on them, I will post them…. as long as they aren’t a gift for someone.

I have more plain green aprons available in my ArtFire shop, if you would like to embroider (or paint) your own!

Did I mention that I love taking pics of my embroidery and fabric at this angle?

Gotta go back to work…   kthxbye

Happy Mother’s Day (photo heavy)

DSC_0571

Happy (late) Mother’s Day to all of the mommies out there, especially the new mommies!

DSC_0579

Yesterday, we went to the Mother’s Day Brunch at the Gaylord Texan. Nowhere near cheap, but totally worth it! It’s really nice to dress up and be catered to.

DSC_0580The food always looks so amazing!! This year, as opposed to past years, seemed to be seriously downsized. I would say that there was half the food and none of the normal ice sculptures. There also seemed to be less staff on the floor.

Still super yummy and I completely over-ate!

There was a little bit of sewing and embroidery this weekend! After fighting with my White sewing machine for most of Friday night, I cleared off my Singer sewing machine and plopped down in front of it on Saturday morning. My goal was to finish my Spring Ruffle Top #2 before I had to leave for the day. So close! I was done (minus one pocket) and in the dryer… but not dry. Oh well!

After Mother’s Day brunch, we had a couple of hours to relax at home. So, I picked up the second pocket and started to embroider it. I finished this pocket and sewed it on, so I could wear my pretty now top to work today!

Happy Cherries & Happy Mother’s Day!

SEWING PATTERN: Spring Ruffle Top from Sew Mama Sew, seen via Craft

EMBROIDERY PATTERN: Cupcake from
Sublime Stitching by Jenny Hart

I finished this one yesterday afternoon and immediately wore it for a couple of hours. My friends already wanna snatch it off of my body! I absolutely love it! I’m sad that I have eviction court tomorrow, so I can’t wear it. (sad face!)

I haven’t started #2 because we are all hungover from MC Chris last night and loud noises are bad. I guess I could cut the fabric and get it started.

I wonder what I am going to embroider on the pocket…

Off to start sewing! Bye!

FO: Super-Secret Embroidery

= Over-The-Bed Wallhanging

It IS DONE!!! WHEW!!!

I finished this last night and I couldn't wait to hang it up! But, I did want to wait until today to take pictures because I got new nightstands, lamps, curtain rods and sheets today. Mom says I'm nesting before Robyn & Ray move in.

The story of the wall hanging? Well, when Lowe's cut the wood for my headboard, there was a left over piece that was the same width. I figured it would make for something fantastic to hang over the bed. So, when I picked out the headboard fabric and buttons, I picked more fabric the same color as the buttons and batting to cover the extra piece of wood.

The designs are something I must have come across in a library book, because I had copied them and had them in one of my many pattern binders. I changed the left corner design to make it a little less foo-foo, since that is Erik's side of the bed. I know the design on the right (my side) is a variation of a "blue onion" design, normally seen on kitchen items.

After a couple of weeks of dragging the blue fabric to work and stitching in my spare time, I finished it. It is so pretty it makes my tummy flutter! It's rare that I am this proud of one of my projects. Please excuse my gloating.

You can see close-ups of the embroidery in my Flickr by clicking here.

SQUEE!!!

wait and see

I started this project a couple of days ago. Right now, I think I am about 1/3 done. I hope to have it done my next weekend, before all our guests arrive.

Sort of secretive, I know. Kinda fun, though!

Frozen Foto Fun!

It's cold outside! Luckily, it was 80 degrees on Saturday and I think that kept everything from becoming a frozen, icy mess today. I finished all of my work by noon, so I got to work on my Bialosky quilt blocks while I waited for the mailman.

I'm home now and I plan to finish packing for Colorado and decide which craft projects I am taking with me!

Bialosky's Christmas Quilt Blocks (aka Adventures in Crayon-Tinting)

Here is my New Years Eve and New Years Day. After lunch on New Years Eve, I headed down to Joanns and picked up everything that I needed, except for the lightbox. That night, the boys were in the living room playing video games and Robyn was playing on the pink Xbox360, so I got to play with my crayons, iron and fabric!

The results? Well, in my opinion, on 100% white cotton, I prefer to use Regular Crayola Crayons! If you look closely on the window square, you will see that the crayon that I used for the snow has bled. That was the only time is used the Crayola Fabric Crayons. It worked fine for snow, thank goodness, but even after several ironings, it still leaves color on the paper. As for the Regular Crayola Crayons, barely any color transferred to the paper, plus there was NO BLEEDING!

Of course, I just read some of the Amazon reviews and it says the Crayola Fabric Crayons are for synthetic fabric. They wash right out of cotton. Guess that explains that! HA!

The last pic in the little mosaic is from last night. I picked up a small lightbox at Hobby Lobby for $7.50 ($9.99 - 25%)!! What a steal! It made tracing the image so much easier! I didn't have to trace it first with a fabric pen. I just started with crayon and it worked out PERFECT!

I am very excited about this quilt. I know how I am going to work the squares. Very simple. I plan on mooching some fabric from my mother-in-law, because she has a TON of it!

I'm off to go work on my squares!! HAPPY NEW YEAR! May it be filled with new crafty adventures!

Bialosky's Christmas - a pricessless childhood memory

And now it is going to be a WIP!

When I was little, little, little my Mimi would read this book to me around Christmas-time. Somehow, our original copy disappeared but one of her friends found it for her this year and she gave it to me as one of my Christmas gifts.

After reading through it, I decided that the pictures would make wonderful embroidered quilt panels! I plan on using them as my first color-tinting experiment! I have my Joann coupons ready and I plan on picking up some a light box, white fabric and cutting tools. I guess I should keep an eye out for cheap Christmas fabric to accent everything, also!

I can't decide whether to do the outlines in color or in black. What do you think? I really like how the colored embroidery thread pops with the crayon tinting, but I also like the black outlines in the storybook pages.

HAPPY (better late, than never) HOLIDAYS!

Thanksgiving, Christmas and a FO!

Happy (late) Thanksgiving!! We had both families over and everything turned out great and 95% perfect! It was even better knowing that we didn't have to be anywhere at a certain time, except for HOME!! I even think I might do it again next year!!Justify Full

Yesterday, I actually put up the Christmas tree!! Erik even helped decorate it!! I was so excited that I got to hang our ornament for this year, a bride and groom! It was a bridal shower gift from two of the little girls that my aunt takes care of.

After Thankgiving dinner 2.0 (reheated turkey, dressing, potatoes, broccoli casserole, etc), I finally got to work on a crafty Christmas gift. I had thought about this months ago and even bought the black shirt. I've just been lazy with the embroidery part. My friend has this tattoo and he is very proud of it. He loves pin-up girls! So I decided to take his tattoo and embroidery it on the back of a shirt.

I had help from his wife, Robyn, who took the pictures of his tattoo for me. I then took a clear sheet protector and outlined the tattoo in Sharpie on the plastic. Next, I photocopied the only sheet protector to create a black and white outlined pattern. After that, I just transferred it with a yellow sheet of DMC Embroidery Tracing Paper. I had to go over the outline with white washable pencil to make it brighter, then I embroidered it! The markings really started to fade toward the end, but I got it finished. I think it took me a whole 5 hours from start to finish and I am very impressed with the results!! I would definitely make more of these shirts for him with his other tattoos, or even just add to this one!

Gotta run! Tonight is Beerman The Crawl II... I must prepare for my drunken asshattery... No, we aren't driving... We got a hotel room!!!

I started and finished the "L" that goes on Erik's Luigi hat, which I found on Amazon: Cotton Elastic Newsboy Cap-Lime.

He is really excited about being Luigi. I'm going to be Princess Peach this year. I didn't make my costume, but it is still really cute!

I'm tired. I'm going to bed. I just wanted to post this before I forgot.

FO: Mario & Princess Peach Bathroom Frame

I just finished this 5 minutes ago!!! My master bathroom is pink and green with froggies. I couldn't think of anything that would go in there, until I found Sprite Stitch. That site inspired me and made me think of this video game couple!

Yay for pink and green!

I started on the Vomit Shawl (from this pattern + ravelry). Just like the Barf Scarf, this one is made from mostly gifted yarn. I have received many random skeins and balls of novelty yarn. I wanted to make an entrelac shawl that would be tacky, colorful, and unique. This is absolutely perfect!

Organized Floss & Fabric Tinting Goodies!

I organized my floss box this weekend. I also picked up some awesome fabric crayons, not-so-fabric crayons, and fabric markers! I can't wait to use them on some secret Christmas projects.

Gotta run! The Packers are playing the Cowboys right now...

FO: Sailor Moon Embroidered Shirt

Washed and ready to wear. I may add the other Sailor Scouts to the front, but I haven't decided yet. I LOVE how it turned out! I can't wait to make some more anime embroidery projects!

Just what I need....

Another hobby stash!!! Yes, that is embroidery in the picture. Yes, it is Sailor Moon. I took the image from this site, Lycentia's SM Graphics. This is actually on the back of a white pearl-snap shirt that used to be Erik's grandfathers.

I am practicing so I can do one for Erik with these that I ordered from SuperCrafty.Com. Of course, my best friend's husband is a freak for pin-up girls, so I might have to make one for him to. I need to find a another shirt in my size so I can do a Japanese-inspired motif that isn't anime. I also want to embroider some kitchen towels with this sushi motif, but SuperCrafty is out of stock. SAD!

Pimp Stitch and overpriced, trendy Ed Hardy have been my inspiration.

I have finally uploaded pics of the monster truck rally that we went to last weekend. We really had a lot of fun and Dillon didn't want to leave!!!

I have never been to one, and I will definately do it again. Most of the show was with locals and their trucks going through a giant mud puddle that my MINI could make it through. It really made me wish that I had my big truck out there.
