Friday Nite Fiber & Weekend Sacrifices

Friday Nite Fiber

An evening of beer, fiber (crochet, really), and Texas country music. Erik and I went to see Brian Houser at Shady Oaks BBQ on Friday. While I crocheted and responsibly only had two beers, Erik never went without two at a time. That's why I get to drive. All I need is some kind of yarny-project and a place to sit and I am happy! Yarn + Beer + BBQ + Texas Country Music... I think Vicki Howell would be proud!

It was another weekend at the lake house. By Saturday breakfast, I had used up all of my solid pink yarn and I was 8 rows short of finishing the bottom ribbing. A serious fiber-disaster. I had not planned ahead enough to bring another project or buy enough yarn to sustain me through the weekend. So, I made a special trip into town for more yarn. I had planned to drive 45 minutes one way, just so I wouldn't have to go without. Talk about addiction! Luckily, I found a brand new Hobby Lobby only 20 minutes out. WHEW!

As soon as I got back to the lake, the boys broke a pipe under the house that they were trying to fix. SIGH! So, we turned the water off to the rest of the house and roughed it. We still had one water hose that was on a separate circuit as everything else, so we could still keep things flushed. We also stockpile bottled water, so the only sacrifice we made was washing our hair outside with the hose and bathing with wash rags and stove heated water.

Oh!! I did crochet on the boat, which is WAY HARDER to do than knitting on the boat. I almost finished the first 16in of the cover-up and then I noticed two big mistakes that caused me to rip all by 2 rows out. The ribbing was safe, don't worry.

Last night, while watching Tivo'd Gossip Girl, I made up for half of what was ripped out. I didn't watch that show when it was new, but I am seriously liking it! I have the first book, that the tv series is based on, coming via BookMooch.Com.

Gotta run and do a little work!!! xoxo (hehehe)

Computer Surgery

I am a nerd....

Well, my power provider doesn't think it is high priority to fix the issue of the crazy transformer and wire issues in my back yard. The causes my lights to flicker (ha ha, not Flickr) and the occasional power surge when it is windy.

Yesterday afternoon, the lights were playing the flicker game so I turned off and unplugged the computer at home. I guess I was too late. This morning I got up to check my email and the damn thing wouldn't even turn on. No juice.

With everything unplugged, I lug it to work so I can open it up to work on it. I tried to swipe Mom's power supply from her desktop, but it didn't have the right connectors.

After a $100 trip to Best Buy for one of their cheapie power supplies, I got things working again and saved myself from having to buy a new desktop or at least an overpriced repair. BONUS: It is a tax write-off, since I do some of my business at home.

Due to the lack of knitting....

I didn't score any points for the Nascar KAL. Sad, really. I think I knit a whole 3 rounds on my Dreambaby Sock #1 for the whole week.
On the bright side of things, when I was unintentionally deleting portions of this blog, I created one just for my MINI, called My MINI Adventures. That is where I will post most, if not all, of my MINI Cooper stuff.

It is also time for new Project Spectrum colors! How about some ***NEW*** English ivy that I planted in my flower beds! Since I have killed everything else in these beds except for the monkey grass, I can't be too optimistic about the ivy, but it is still growing!

Over the weekend, Erik and his Grandpa hung a new storm door at Erik's house. The old on had fallen off in Dennis' (Erik's roommate) hands. Since Erik's house isn't really square, this took a little while. We got everything done except for hanging the springs. It was dinnertime and sushi was calling!!

Also, no stash flashing here... I need to get things a little more organized before I start showing stuff off!! LoL

It's been a while!! (long w/ pics)

I've been busy around the house and seeing my handsome little brother (dad, too)!! Not in that order of course. I finally got the guys over to the house yesterday to trim my over-grown trees, as well as, install my new oven and other piddlie stuff!! YAY!!! After a year and a half, I finally have an oven that works and has oven racks!! HUD houses are notorious for missing the oven racks, and my house was a HUD house.

There is now a giant pile of brush, cut and bound, in front of my house! It is so tall that I can't see my mailbox from the house!!!!! Now I just have to wait for the cabinet doors to be returned. We had to make the space a little taller for the oven, since my old one was such a weird size.

After that was all said and done, Robyn and I went to get our nails and pedicures done for her wedding. I finally convence Erik to get a pedicure, as long as I didn't bring the camera. I am such a liar!I know he doesn't look really happy in the first picture, but after it was done, he said that it wasn't bad at all!!! PLUS he feet are so soft now and he can't claw me with this toe nails!!

KNITTING:
When we got home, I finished my Kureyon Scarf!!!! This yarn is so YUMMY, that I could just eat it, and I almost did!!! I really thought the brown in the yarn would be really ugly with the other colors, but it fits right in and looks lovely!!! It is even almost symmetrical at the ends!!! I made sure that I got back in town just in time on Sunday to get to the yarn store for one more ball!! That ball was almost a perfect match to the first ball that I used!!

I think now I am in the mood for another pair of socks, but lets just see what yarn speaks to me!

You made it!!!

You made it to my new blog!!! As I explained on the old one, I broke my old blog.

What I did was sign up for Blogger Beta with the same email as my other and they haven't relly integrated the two yet. While I was at work, it wouldn't let me access my old stuff, just the new blog. So, JENN (Fort Worth Fiber Arts) please send me a new invite to the group!! Same with one of my girlz from Tarrant Knitworking!! I can't post to either until I get that fixed!!!

Gotta luv M$! [venting here], and a little good stuff

Please Note: All venting is in RED.

So I get to work this morning and sit down at my laptop just to see this...
So I click, and get this...
Imagine my feelings about this situation. Micro$oft has decided to tell me that the Windows software that came with this laptop, three years ago, is fake. This is after I give them $130 to fix my Xbox 360, which is conveniently just out of warranty, just like everyone elses 360.

Someone explain to me why Micro$oft can, in essence, install spyware onto my computer. Oh! Wait! It's in that thing that you accept before they let you have access to anything!

Maybe next time I will just buy a Mac. Does CompUSA offer the same kind of extended warranty that Best Buy does?

In Codi news, I picked out the buttons I am going to use!! Joanns was a little short on the green buttons, but I did find some cute ones. Yes, you're cute, little, green, girly buttons, aren't you?!?

AND... Ta da! The bathroom is 90% finished at Erik's house!!! All I have to do is paint trim!! That's it!!! I am sooooo happy to be done with this project!!!

Oh!! And did I mention that Mr. Pizza Delivery Guy decided to add $1 to his tip, when it took him an hour to get me my food?? (BTW - I was told 20 minutes) He gave me a sob story and I still tipped him $4 on an $11 pizza. Then he added another $1 for good measure!!! Went to the pizza place to speak to the very nice (seriously) assistant manager and got my dollar back. It is the principle of the whole thing. I could care less about the $1. But if he did that to 20 people that night, then that is $20.

Cable success!

I have finished the bottom, back half of Codi!! Woo hoo!! I did a lot of it while I was catching up on Tivo'd Grey's Anatomy reruns. Yes, I actually got to watch the Tivo since Erik was out playing with Michael at an LS1 g-t-g. Now I am on the waist chart, which should'nt take long. It is only 20 rows. The big question is, do I want to make a belt for it? I guess I will see how much yarn I have left. I think I am on skein #4, so my yarn calculations should work out.

Yesterday, a bunch of us took the day off and went to Hurricane Harbor. The lines weren't as long as they were in previous years, but they still were fairly long. We do this once a summer. Everyone takes a day off in the middle of the week and we go have fun. So, needless to say, no knitting got done yesterday.

Erik's bathroom is soooo close to being done. We have had issues with pretty much every part of the process.
#1) Of course, the bathtub didn't fit, so we had to make 'modifications'.
#2) The trim (aka beauty ring) for the single shower handle wouldn't work with our setup, so I have to dig in the spare parts at my office to find one that would.
#3) The house is farm from square, so I used caulk to hide my errors in the trim work.
#4) There were no water shut-offs under the sink, so we had to install them, as well as new flexible lines from the wall, so we could install the fancy faucet that I picked out.
#5) The above-mentioned fancy faucet has no water pressure, so I have had to pick out yet another fancy faucet. I really hope the issue isn't the new lines or shut-offs. The new-new faucet has yet to be installed.

What is a DIY remodel without those annoying little problems reminding you that you should have had a professional do it all along!?!

Did I mention that the Xbox 360 that I purchased 8 months ago for Erik decided to start locking up? Yup. I am another statistic. After working flawlessly for 8 months, my launch console has begun to malfunction. This is very convenient since the warranty only lasts for 6 months and Walmart didn't offer and extended warranty.
I contacted Micro$oft to troubleshoot and in the end decided to have them make a repair order. A $130 repair order. From what I have read on the forums, I send them my 360 and they send me some other refurbished unit, which is not my original, in return.
I have also noticed that the frequency of 'failures' has increased recently, most occuring after the warranty period. At least with the 'repair' I get an additional 90 day warranty.
I love the product, when it is functioning properly. When it just, out of the blue, malfunctions is when I have a problem with it.

Sorry, I had to vent.

DIY is not always fun! (plus, Kitty pic!) POST #200 (on the old blog)!!

SATURDAY
This weekend, I kinda forced Erik to remodel his bathroom. Oops. His mother bought him a tub/shower for Christmas in 2004 and it has been sitting in his shed since then. This would be that big of a deal, except, his existing shower (no tub) had holes in it and was probably older than me. Mind you, it has been this way for at least 2 years.

So... Saturday, the old shower was torn out. See the mysteriously hidden window that was hidden by old shower and paneling?? This was the fun part (really).

Plumbing, on the other hand, was left to the 'professional', Mr. Jason. I think we got him divorced because he didn't get home until 1:30am-ish.

Of course, the biggest part was getting a 60 inch shower in a 58 inch space. When you remove a door frame AND remove the drywall AND notch out some studs, you can make it fit!! LoL Oh! We also made the one-piece backsplash into a three-piece unit so we could get that in.

Once we had everything 'in' and functioning enough to bathe, we quit for the night. Erik got the first bath.

SUNDAY/MONDAY
Sunday, I pulled up the old vinyl squares and put new one's down. I missed a few spots, because I have to put wood filler down to even out the floor a little.

Yesterday, we installed the new green-board above the shower unit and I started caulking the actually tub/shower on the top and bottom. I am going to have work on the not-so-factory seams that we created. I think I can handle it. I also had to order a different knob trim piece so our pretty knob can sit flush with the rest of the shower, and we have to fix the faucet to it also sits flush. He he he. At least we can still take a bath!!

Still a few more things to do. I'm sure Erik is mad that I am adding things to do as we go, like putting in a new vanity top/sink!!

Here is a pic of what we removed from the bathroom. It is a giant pile of junk!!

But, behind that pile, is a sweet momma-cat and her babies.

She says that we make too much noise!!

What a weekend!!

Here is the list for this past weekend.

* Paint my vanity chair
* Install dummy knobs & hardware on my French doors (finally, after a year)
* Clean up my front porch
* KNIT
* KNIT
* KNIT
* Podcast #2 (maybe)
* ADD: Hang bird feeder

I think I did pretty good. A two hour nap and a friend's dog having puppies kind of figured into everything as well.

Lookie!!! I even have pictures!!!
Robyn's birthday was this weekend too!! We ate sushi and then went out to that Trendy Club again. Since Erik was out of town I didn't have too much fun, but I had a little. Of course, I spread Easter between Erik's family and my family.

My little brother still hasn't appeared!! He was due last Thursday, but no such luck! They are planning to induce this Friday, so I will be in Tyler all weekend!! Woo hoo!! Little bro on the way!!!

Knitting withdrawl!!

It has been such an insane week. Well...first let me tell you a little about my family/work life. I am in property management. Not only that, I work with my mother and my grandfather. It is the family business that no one thought I would like, but I absolutely love it. Its really nice to say, 'Hey, I have a doctor's appointment!' or 'I have a test tonight, can I take off a little early to study?'. Of course it helps that I also have a LYS right next door (Simpatico Yarns).

Ok, back to my insane week. Mom has been out of town since last Thursday, so I have been taking care of the properties she manages. Not a big deal. But managing her properties, my properties, taking care of monthly statements, having an eviction, and doing a few walkthroughs can wear you out!! Of course, the evening I posted the podcast and then also the test we had in Art Appreciation. I've wanted to knit, but I have been so tired!!

Erik took today off so he could visit his buddy, Dave, in Conroe (Houston). They are probably going to spend the weekend avoiding the shower and playing video games until dawn. At least he will be back on Sunday. This means I can watch the Tivo and knit until my hands fall off!!!

Tonite, I am going out for Robyn's birthday. Tomorrow, I do have a few projects planned.

Sunday, it is Easter. I will be going to see Erik's family for lunch (without him, punk) and my family for an early dinner.

Oh!! Saw this on Knitterista's blog, so I made my own!! Make yours at: Collage Machine 1.0.
